Club History;
The formation of the present “Boaters Fishing Club” was formed in March 2015
There had been traditionally a fishing club at Willenhall Memorial Park. Gary Flint park ranger and fisheries student helped to develop the present club.
Alison Bates was assigned to Willenhall Memorial Park and as a priority to form a new fishing club as volunteers where working under Friends of the Park structure with ad hoc collection of payment but no formal group. Alison Bates organised a public meeting in 2015, following that meeting a new fishing club “The Boaters Fishing Club” was formed.
Alison focused on a stewardship agreement which was signed by Clean and Green and The Boaters Fishing Club. All parties had collaborated to source funding for improvements focussing on environmental work. The pool was upgraded as part of the Parks Heritage Lottery Fund around 10 years ago.
Neil Powell, National Fishing Coach attended this first meeting and now holds the stewardship agreement for the fishing pool.
The objectives of the Club are as follows:
- To promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical natural and social environment of the local area, in particular, that of Willenhall Memorial Pool and surrounding areas of the Park.
- To provide and develop, in co-operation with the land owner (Walsall Council), and the Friends of Willenhall Memorial Park, facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or leisure time occupation in order to improve conditions of life for the local residents, and to encourage use of such facilities, by all sections of the community.
- To advance public education about ways to conserve, protect and improve the physical, natural and social environment.
